not much progress yet.

Last weekend we went down to visit some family. This part of the family happens to have their own lumber mill. We cut our own beams for the loft supports out of local trees on a family owned (and made) lumber mill, how cool is that?

We have been pretty busy though, so the house is going slow. Weekends have been ugly weather wise. Now that we have a whole extra hr of sunlight in the afternoons hopefully we can get some more done. But spring brings strong winds and nasty allergies to these parts....so may still be slow for a while.

We have a floor!

This weekend we made the floor box. We have thin plywood on the bottom just to keep mice out of the insulation, then 2x6 joists then r19 insulation and tongue and groove sub floor on top. Tons of liquid nails and screws...we do NOT want a squeaky floor!

 Lots of glue and screws....

Boo crawled into her carseat and caught some zzz's while we worked on the floor.

Checking out the new floor....I think they like it :)

Skids down

I guess that is what you call it...skids? Anyway, got all 15 posts in the ground and all the concrete poured. For this project it took 48 80lb bags of quickcrete. Going to start work on the floor box as soon as possible. May be on hold for a while though so we can deal with my grandpas house. A pipe broke inside and flooded part of it and the floor is in really poor shape now so probably need to replace that. Fun stuff!

So here are the skids part way done (totally done now)

And Little Guy putting rocks in the concrete mixer, he totally gets it!

Concrete more than half done...

Dad went out and poured more concrete last night. We have 5 more holes to do and hope to get them done tonight or tomorrow night....Maybe, just maybe if it is nice out on Sunday we can get some of the pressure treated framing up!!! Oh, this is the fun part :)

Posts and concrete!

We have 15 holes for posts dug with an ogger...meaning that they are full of loose dirt since the ogger didn't clean them out. They are about 4 feet deep each. We cleaned out 5 of them and set the posts in those 5. They are leveled and we got concrete poured in 2 of them today before working on the well a little. Tomorrow we plan to at least pour the concrete in the 3 remaining holes that are ready....but we hope to get a few more cleaned out, posts leveled and concrete poured. We went and bought the pressure treated 2x10x12's and the rest of the concrete today. I feel great that we are getting somewhere! Oh, and we set up a small play area for the kiddos near the building site complete with small slides,  trucks, shovels, a table, chairs, and a pack n play for when we need to contain Little Man. I plan to keep a running cost total for the whole house, I just need to figure out how to make a list like that on this blog, maybe with a link on the side??

So it took longer than planned (as usual) but we BROKE GROUND TODAY!!!! And what a perfect day, Little Man's first birthday today! Not only does it mean that we broke ground, it also means that we figured out where to put the tiny house, how far from the septic we could go (without re-doing septic stuff), and how we wanted it oriented...due south. Right now it looks so funny (the layout) because it is due south while nothing else on the property is. So it seems so crooked and out of place.

Breaking ground!

Boo wanted to sit on the tractor because brother did. Big sis can't get left out! But all she did was complain how cold it was.
Little Man on the other hand loved his first tractor experience on his first birthday.

Dreaming and more dreaming. Just for kicks (and to get a true perspective) we taped off an 11x23 ft (internal dimensions of the house) rectangle in our living room. Yes, our new house would fit in our living room!!

So, here is it. From the line that Little Man is crawling to the wall behind the tree is 11 ft....from the windows to about where I took the pic from is 23 ft. Our entire living space will be in that area with 2 sleeping lofts. I love to see it, but it is kinda scary. Can we do it? Can we truly live in a space that small with 2 kids without driving each other batty? It will be an adventure, that is for sure! I can't wait to get started, to do something more complex than just tape on the floor ;)
